Barefoot running

They say that when the US catches a cold the rest of the world sneezes … and although this statement refers to economic and financial developments, this time I use it for a sporty trend.

Yesterday I read in La Vanguardia the following news: “In New York becomes fashionable barefoot running”. Some athletes and médicosdefienden Home footwear facilitates impact with the forefoot, which lowers the effect of the coup and those who practice it, they say they feel better and suffer fewer injuries.

I do not know if in other Spanish cities this sport live with such intensity as in Barcelona. In fact, dosymedia offices are located at Av. Diagonal where every time I see more fans to the sport at any time of day. Here goes: equipped with the latest generation running shoes between cars, taxis, buses and traffic lights. Hot or cold … nothing seems to stop them.

Maybe it’s because I have several friends who are true innkeepers (one, Jordi Caba, is almost professional) and soil noticing the shelves of sporting goods stores and product offering for this type offered by brands. For decades, R & D departments of large firms have researched sports inner tubes, tread cushioning, pronation patterns … and in the end will be that what was once a practice of self-punishment (see processions of southern Spain), now may be the latest in sports technology.

Meanwhile, the market is beginning to offer alternatives that are close to nudity foot.

How long before we see athletes to Barcelona with his feet on the asphalt?

Empty head… not hollow

Like almost everyone, dosymedia goes on vacation …

I remember with nostalgia when I was young I spent many summers in a nice house in a village novecentista near the sea. My sister and I shared games, bike rides and the occasional yawn of boredom (I must say).

What I miss most of my childhood summers is the empty feeling in my head, leaving behind everything that was part of my life in the city and outside the news-bad news that swept the world. I’ve never gone back to achieve it again…

During the fortnight that dosymedia offices will be closed, I’ll take with me projects and ideas for September, but also Scandinavian attacks, tax debt, famine, Somali, financial deficits and health cuts. And, as every summer, I will attempt autumn with some uncertainty and hesitation wondering what the hell is waiting for us next year. Of course, I then remember a famous line from an investment manager who said:

“The only thing we can be sure of is uncertainty.” I thought a lot about that phrase last summer and then … I decided to contract myself.

Happy summer to everyone!

Have I a guru friend?

Some years ago, I was fortunate to be part of a project that began a friend.

An engineer twenties, call it X, nature lover and tireless athlete able to self-impose impossible challenges he began to question his business address to direct your attention to NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)*.

(*) Dr. Richard Bandler was the precursor of this science capable of providing a set of concepts, methods and techniques to change that limits development and to enrich their personal and professional lives of people.

At that time I had never heard of anything like that, the fact is that my friend X asked me to be his “guinea pig” and started scheduling coaching sessions where, without realizing it, he gave me tools later learned to apply and me they served to address intellectual, professional and personal challenges redirected my life.

Since then (it’s been almost seven years) and my friend has become a leader in NLP techniques that teaches and lectures worldwide. The Bandler himself appointed him Master Trainer in recognition of his dedication and knowledge becoming thus the first Spanish man to possess.

Again, my dear friend, made me a gift and handed me the manuscript of his first book to read it and give you their opinion before it is translated into English for publication in different countries.

It is simply fantastic and I hope that thousands of people buy to get the resources to go as far as they wish and ultimately be happier. … I already am.

The manuscript I had in my hands.

A Parisien café in Barcelona

Joshéphine Bar & Restaurant is one of the newly opened Parisien cafe in Barcelona I wanted to try …
It is located at Pau Claris (Golden Square in the heart of the Eixample) and has maintained exterior and the inside that reminds me of the historic cafes.

Hanging from the front of the restaurant some flower pots are lined (fresh air apart from the gray asphalt) and in the inside remains the Noucentists floors and columns of the property. Soft lighting gives the restaurant’s local a pleasant atmosphere.

Asking for the menu, will pose you a big dilemma: you must choose the combination of three succulent gastronomic served in one only dish.

Mainly Mediterranean cuisine cooked and combined with success, the supply of homemade cakes and aesthetics are certainly the strengths.

Weaknesses: the tables are set close to each other and do not allow reservations. Still, … I’ll recommend it.

The importance of communication

This week I went to the cinema to see the Oscar-winning movie “The King’s speech.” Regardless of my highest recommendation to go and watch it, it was an interesting lesson about the importance of communication.

A leader (political, religious, military, business or sports) has a powerful tool to deliver his message to the audience: his speech.

Pep Guardiola is a good coach (I do not dare to question the Catalan leader) but I wonder if he would arouse so much interest and respect if he spoke insecure and stutter in front of the microphones.

There are great speakers who have gone down in history for their ability to communicate. Winston Churchill said excitedly, “Never before so many have owed so much to such a few” referring to the armies that fought in the British Channel and prevented the Nazi occupation of England.

Well … never so few words defined more accurately a situation.

A coffee at Starbucks

Just next to my office there is a Starbucks. Occasionally, I love to take the computer and sit in a comfortable chair to prepare a meeting while sipping hot tea and a cinnamon muffin. I’ve always found the concept of Starbucks coffee shops innovating . They’ve managed to make you feel at home anywhere in the world, encourage you to work or study at them, prepare your coffee to your taste, and is one of the few places where you do not feel uncomfortable if you’re alone/a.

I do not know whether it is a generational business or not. That is, whenever I see young people and, in fact, my mother hates them. – Why shout your name to serve coffee? Why do they serve in paper cups? – She asks with dislike when we have ever talked in any of its places.

Perhaps my generation, thirty-something, appreciate to be left in peace, be offered wifi and let us sit in an overstuffed chair while sounding notes of jazz. Or maybe we are just caught by marketing strategies …

Just 1of 4

In marketing there is the theory that only 1 of every 4 products launched, survives.

To prove this, we can do a test: Each year the prizes “Product of the Year” are awarded, in which marks are awarded for creating new products and investing in innovation. Year after year, many products of different families are awarded and the brands display the award as small R & D trophies but … after advertising campaigns, claims on the shelves of supermarkets and marketing activities, how many of them survive?

I propose a game: Visit this site and see the products that have been “Product of the Year” for 2000 and 2002.
Consumers are fickle and we’re dying to try new things and this is how brands commit and invent new concepts or new flavors.

dosymedia project

It seems like yesterday when we decided to undertake the project dosymedia. However, the time has come (and how could it be otherwise, it is half past two) to make you a brief introduction of why this initiative, why now and why here.

We want to approach you, communicate and let us know. At the end of the day, that’s exactly what we do. We want to reach people in a direct, transparent and honest way, openly but with respect, no verbiage but good words.

We enjoy a good morning newspaper, a good opinion piece and an interesting TV show, we have simply expanded our means to communicate. We only hope that, in this way, you can participate a little in our project and share ideas, news, reflections, and why not discuss it.

See you, then, at half past two.
