A logo and the view of a 6 year old child
A few days ago a good friend of mine told me about the funny comment of her 6 year old son on the Once Foundation logo design, printed on one of the kiosks to sell coupons.
– Mom … why draw a man peeing? – he asked innocent as he tried to understand what was the relation between that physiological action and the draw.
Then I realized he was right. Often, we have internalized some trademark symbols of blockbuster firms that have been part of our life and we are unable to see them in an impartial manner.
I imagined the design departments of large multinational advertising agencies analyzing pantones, lines, symbols and color together in eternal debates before launching a logo to the market, and I contrasted it with the simplicity of the child’s eyes. Apparently, I’m not the only one that has made this reflection…Today I found a funny video where the creative of the Ladd-design american agency experimented more or less the same with his 5 year’s daughter.
